rock chalk jayhawk red sock

What an unbelievable game last night. In case you missed the National Championship game, it was only the seventh to go to overtime, and one of the most clutch performances at the end of regulation that I have ever seen from the Jayhawks of Kansas. Down three with less than 10 seconds to go, Chalmers scoops up the loose ball, takes an off-balance three, and drains it with 2.1 on the clock. Find it on YouTube, it’ll be there, I’m sure. Memphis just came up short in the end, and ran out of gas, and they looked it in the overtime session. There was some poor coaching on the Memphis end near the end of that game (poor FT shooting, not calling a timeout, not fouling) that eventually did the Tigers in.

As for my Gators, there’s always next year. But what’s going to happen with the roster? 14 Scholarship players, but only 13 scholarship slots… it should be an interesting next few weeks.

Meanwhile, my Red Sox are off to a decent start. We won 3 of 4 against Oakland, 2 of those games in Japan, 2 in Oakland. Dice-K looked good in his second start, and Jon Lester was on in his second start as well. But then we got swept by the Blue Jays over the weekend in Toronto. None of our pitchers really pitched dominantly. You kind of expect imperfection from Wakefield and Buchholz (one’s a knucleballer and the other one is still green) but Josh Beckett did not have command in those middle innings when he tends to shut people down. I’m a little worried about him. Meanwhile, this week is tough for the Sox: 3 at home vs. Detroit (0-6) and three more against the Yankees (4-3). We should have a good gauge as to where we are, in comparison with these two other contenders, by the end of the week. We’ll see how it all pans out.
